I boot from /dev/sda which contains win7, hp recovery, etc. My raid 5 is on /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc and /dev/sdf and is mounted as /media/data. During the boot process Ubuntu halts with the message that there is no /media/data and I normally press "S" to skip waiting. Then I need to mount the disk either with a mount command in a terminal winds or the Disk Utility. It would be great if grub could start and mount my raid 5.

By the time you can press "S" to skip waiting, you are already seeing plymouth. The actual raid assembly is usually done by the package mdadm.
Can you please run $ sudo apport-collect 1044598 to collect relevant details about your raid array.
I am assuming that you are using software raid via mdadm, and not fakeraid / external metadata raid via dmraid.
