[regression] Detection of unresolved symbols at load time is missing

In compiz 0.9.7, missing symbols are found during plugin load and handled gracefully as an error:

./bin/compiz (core) - Error: Couldn't load plugin '/home/dan/097/lib/compiz/libimgsvg.so' : /home/dan/097/lib/compiz/libimgsvg.so: undefined symbol: decor_apply_gravity

In compiz 0.9.8 however, this detection is broken and we just get crashes instead (bug 1043143). Why?!
