scroll wheel does not work in VirtualBox during LiveCD session

Scroll with a scroll wheel doesn't work on a web page opened in Quantal running on VirtualBox. To scroll down or up, one should click and drag the scroll bar accordingly.

Does scroll wheel work at all in VirtualBox without installing any special drivers?

Could be a bug in VirtualBox...

Cause on the installed systems scrollwheel works fine in web-browsers, including firefox.

Just to check whether it's actually a problem with VirtualBox, I tested with Oracle Enterprise Linux. There wasn't any problem.
No missing mouse pointer, no problem with the scroll wheel.

Does the mouse & scroll wheel work after:
* finishing the installation
* installing virtualbox-guest-dkms
* possibly installing virtualbox-guest-additions-iso

Testing with Oracle Enterprise Linux doesn't explain much: if special drivers are required inside Oracle Virtualbox, I would expect Oracle Enterprise Linux to have them included by default.

I am opening tasks against:
* linux - possibly missing driver
* virtualbox - possibly broken mouse virtualisation

Yes, the mouse and scroll wheel work perfectly fine during and after installation. I didn't install anything exclusively to make them work. Maybe, like you said, OEL could be equipped with the special drivers. I'll try and install another OS, possibly MS Windows, and check. Since I've run Quantal on VMWare Player as well, I know as a fact that these problems do not exist there, though it makes sure to bump you with one or two different issues.

I could not collect the log files from the terminal window by executing apport-collect 1043488 as the result said I do not have launchpadlib Python module installed. When I used 'sudo apt-get install launchpadlib', it's found that the package is not available. So changing the status as suggested.

Akhila, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu on your host and guest? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, on your host, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:
