You are using an untested / unsuported installation media:
LiveMediaBuild: Ultimate Edition 3.4 LTS "Precise" - Release i386 (20120423)

Can you please download official Ubuntu media from:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/12.04.1/

All packages / software will still be available to you after installation.
