Bug Description
Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal with ppa:timo-
Issue: The launcher area is displayed in grey as the user logs in. See attached screenshot.
Additional info- Within few seconds after login, the launcher goes back to normal translucent view.

Confirmed. This is not new. I've had this bug since at least Ubuntu 12.04, if not 11.04.
This must be a duplicate, surely?
