Bug Description

My computer is running Precise downloaded from image on DVD. . It was ok for afew months but now it keeps keeps crashing. It also maxes out apport error reporting . I have turned off the native RAID in my Dell's BIOS to simplify matters but if any thing it seems to have made things worse. I've reinstalled several times but the problems are unresolved.

Still on linux generic kernel 3.20.23. Been trying to insatall linux-image 3.20.0.27, 3.20.29, 3.20.30 using dowload manager, Synaptic and boot up recovery mode. They have unmet dependencies which cannot be resolved.

The package grub-pc 1.99-21 ubuntu 3.1 failed to install upgrade etc. in the summary is but one of many errors. Error messages include:
"The following packages have unmet dependencies: linux-image-generic (=3.20.30.32) but 3.20.29 is - installed";
 "error processing linux-image-generic (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured";
" errors were encountered while processing linux-image 3.2.0 - 27, 29, 30";
"upgrade: linux-generic linux-image--generic setting up" followed by failure messages;
"sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned error code (1.)";
Error code 127 also flashed past on many occasions.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that there is a problem in the configuration of your '/etc/default/grub' file. Keep in mind than any kernel parameters should have double quotes around them like so: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash". Please review your changes to '/etc/default/grub' and try running 'sudo update-grub' again. In the event they you are able to resolve your issue please set this bug's status to Invalid. If you are not able to resolve the issue please attach the file '/etc/default/grub' to the bug report. Thanks and good luck!

Hi Brian, this is the first time I use the launchpad and since only 1 person is affected, and I am having the issue I guess that would be me...

If this is the case you can close this issue because you were absolutely right. I had modified the grub file to fix an SD card reader issue.

Long story short you were absolutely right, I guess I still have tons to learn.

Many regards,
Yannick C.
