Bug Description

When using gnome-terminal to view output that is scrolling very quickly, it
burns up over 70% of my CPU trying to keep up. My entire system slowed to a
crawl because gnome-terminal could not handle the rate of data coming through it
in an efficient manner.

This is not an issue with xterm, and it makes gnome-terminal useless to me for
my work.

What is it about gnome-terminal which causes it to perform poorly? The font
rendering? Does it not implement "jump" scrolling to catch up?

Not sure, there are probably several issues due to pango, the scrolling method, ...
Some upstream bugs are interesting to read, ie:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137864
which contains comments from the rxvt-unicode upstream devel.
