Bug Description

After dist-upgrading from edgy to feisty using the manual method as described in the official tutorial, there is no power management: when the battery is out, the system simpy dies. There are neither warning messages, nor an icon on the system tray showing the battery status.

My system: Thinkpad T60p core2 duo 2.33 Ghz, 2048 Mb RAM

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in recently. We were wondering if this is still and issue for you? Thanks in advance.

If the gnome desktop is running, power management puts the laptop to sleep when the battery is low (although not always, most of the times only).

Without the gnome desktop running (using dwm, wm, etc), then when the battery gets depleted the system dies without warning. I would expect the operating system, not the desktop, to manage power and ALWAYS put the computer to sleep when battery is depleted. How come this is not?

Your Ubuntu version is EOL. Can you still reproduce this with a supported Ubuntu version? Thank you for telling us!

Thank you so much Thomas for following this up. Indeed I am in my third laptop since that Thinkpad, and it uses Ubuntu 12.04. So this bug is now obsolete and can be safely closed.
