Bug Description
As of Mint 13 / Ubuntu 12.04 :
file-browser-applet has been removed not only from the standard installation but also from the Mint distribution.
file-browser-applet is a misnomer.
It can indeed browse files but it can also browse shortcuts and launch them.
Shortcuts, text files, Web links etc. mixed in a folder tree by simple mouse drags make a terrific menu system.
And that menu can be shared between users, even over the Internet, the simplest way there is !!!
The users who have built upon that idea are VERY VERY disappointed.
They wonder why system integrators can remove simple things that work so well and replace them with complication. Try with another menu system to make a symbolic link of a shortcut, even on another computer!!!
Instead of removing it, better
* sort the menu (file) entries by following the same manual order as the file manager
* improve speed: it seems in analyzes subdirectories uselessly
* which is probably why it was resetting the computer by analyzing /dev
* fix the memory leak
Thanks.
