Hi there. I was actually the one to originally describe this problem in an IRC chat (freenode.net #ubuntu)
I am running the current, most up-to-date version of Ubuntu.
I installed German and Swahili via System->Administration->Language Support.
In the terminal, I typed: sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales and only German and English locales were found.
Upon logging out, at the login screen I click on Options, switch language, and only English and German variants are present.
Please let me know if there's anything else I can do.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 beta?

Just checked in Intrepid after its release, still the case.

There is not a translatable interface included with this package. There is just a writing aid and spell-check dictionary. Thanks, Chris
