I tried this with Kubuntu Feisty Fawn Herd 5 and Beta with same result. I did not test the alternate CD.
It seems to me a like the Bug #84964 where something is wrong with the SATA drivers. But status of this Bug is "fix released"?

DirkP: Please retest with the latest daily image from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ . The fix was uploaded after the beta release. Please tell me if the latest image works. Thanks.
