grub2 hangs on headless server

Bug Description

This was reported on 10.10 but still exists on 12.04. This is unconscionable.. This and other bugs make me question whether Ubuntu Server is suitable for production use.

rsyslogd does not restart properly after logrotate either. These two bugs are enough to disqualify Ubuntu Server

How am I supposed to restart remotely when a restart is required by an update?

If the bug was already reported, then there is no need to report it again. If you have an unrelated bug with syslog, then you should file a separate bug report on that package. For questions, please use answers.launchpad.net.
