Bug Description

Binary package hint: cupsys

I'm using KUbuntu 6.10 release and sun Java 6 (SUN distribution). My current cupsys version as seen from Adept Manager is 1.2.4-2
With this configuration I could not print from any Java application. I could see print dialog but after confirmation to print nothing happend.
From job list of selected printer there was an appropriate task but within error state.
In order to solve this problem I removed the current version of cupsys and all packages that had cups within its name except libcupsys2.
I downloaded cupsys source form http://packages.qa.debian.org/c/cupsys.html. The version is 1.2.7-4.
Now, after build and installation, I can normaly print from any Java application.
So I'm suggestiong you to revise current cupsys version in ubuntu package reposiotory to solve this problem.

This is a known bug, and has apparently been fixed in Java 6-10. The version of java currently packaged for Intrepid is 6-07. This should be upgraded to >= 6-10 before Intrepid is released in order to resolve this issue. Note that there is a workaround described at the very bottom of the first link below, see also Sun/java bug ID #6506286.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 beta? If so, can you use openjdk-6-jdk instead?
