Bug Description

device `hpaio:/net/Officejet_Pro_8600?zc=HP3AC1CD' is a Hewlett-Packard Officejet_Pro_8600 all-in-one

Been working with Jeff Ratcliffe as it was thought this was a bug in gscan2pdf but it seems to be a bug in hplip backend.

scanimage --device-name='hpaio:/net/Officejet_Pro_8600?zc=HP3AC1CD' --mode='Lineart' --source='ADF' --contrast='0' -x 215.9 --compression='JPEG' -y 279 -l 0 --resolution='300' -t 0 --batch --progress

Returns output pnm files that are not correct.

$ identify ~/Desktop/test\ images/djj_out1.pnm

identify: unable to read image data `/home/jeff/Desktop/test
images/djj_out1.pnm' @ error/pnm.c/ReadPNMImage/645.

Well, we will look into it.

 Do you face same problem while setting the mode to 'Gray' or 'Color'? Is there any issue if you change the source to Flatbed ?

same problem with hp 8500pro (A910) and gscan2pdf with scanimage and scanadf frontend.
I think the pnm files are the problem. scandadf in konsole with jpeg-out show the picture
