full-screen windows cast a shadow on adjacent workspaces

In Quantal, running both Unity from system packages and from trunk, a fullscreen application on workspace 1 casts a shadow down the left-hand side of workspace 2. This makes it almost impossible to see the launcher icon indicators to the left of the icons.

See attached screenshow of workspace 2. Notice that I have several applications open, but it's hard to see that since the shadow obscures the indicators.
