Bug Description
I have a MCE USB IR remote that doesn't work with 12.04 out of the box.
What I did
* disable lirc and confirm devinput events are received correctly with evtest or ir-keytable -t
* reenable lirc and configure to operatve via devinput and select the appropriate device
* start irw and press some buttons on remote
What I expected to happen
* irw displays keypresses
What actually happened
* Nothing was displayed by irw
* after rebuilding lirc package with --debug argument passed to configure, the following lines were printed to syslog:
Jul 26 18:23:11 bedroom lircd-0.9.0[1848]: you are using an obsolete devinput config file: Success
Jul 26 18:23:11 bedroom lircd-0.9.0[1848]: get the new version at http://
I updated that file and irw started sending messages.

I had very similar issues but my problem was /lib/udev/ rc_keymaps/ was not proper for my remote. I was using an Antec Veris case that depends on the imon driver.
With lirc configured to use the devinput I could get some buttons but not all of them via 'irw'. My solution was to take the older /usr/share/ lirc/remotes/ imon/lircd. conf.imon- pad and merge in into the new /lib/udev/ rc_keymaps/ imon_pad to have all of the codes I use to have prior to a 12.04 dist upgrade. Once this was done and I rebooted I could get all my keys. (more notes on my fix here: http:// torawk. blogspot. ca/2012/ 08/devinput- antec-veris- imon-remote- used.html )
I came across this bug while trying to fix it and it sounds like similar symptoms -- so perhaps this is an alternative fix? and easier to do than recompiling.
I've attached my new /lib/udev/ rc_keymaps/ imon_pad is case it helps.
