Gedit icon failed to show on launcher- inconsistent

Bug Description
Release ubuntu 12.10 quantal (Radeon) with ppa:SIL2100
No gedit icon on launcher even though gedit windows are open. See attached screenshot.
This behaviour is not consistent, 2nd time I tried to open a gedit window and a gedit icon was visible on launcher.
