I think that's intentional. But I couldn't find a bug where it was changed. You don't find it really annoying that you have to cd -almost- every time you open a new tab?

when i have cd'd to my working directory `x` and am doing something. if i open a tab i have to again cd in to `x` and continue.
on other other hand if anyone prefers the current behavior can just add cd ~ to .bashrc and its done but i can't find any other way to implement this using a trick.

I would rather this be an option than a forced feature. When I open a new tab it's generally because I want to work on something totally different than my current tab.

@Adam

    new tab -> same goal different command(s) (same project -> editing,etc)

new window -> totally different thing.

I'd be inclined to mark this "won't fix". No other app behaves this way. And in fact, when Marlin did behave this way at one point the behavior was changed because it was interpreted as a bug.

Well Daniel, I don't see the harm of adding an option for this. Gnome-Terminal works this way. Xfce terminal does to. Terminator too.
