A very handy mind-mapping program, used a lot for brainstormsessions, to structure your reports, or software, or housekeeping tasks.

Have you tried to compile/run freemind with any of the available
DFSG-free JREs so far?

Recently I spent a few hours on creating a freemind package myself,
since I hadn't seen the links to your package so far. If you want,
I'll be happy to sponsor your package.

Not personally, but some users have unintentionally and unsuccessfully
tried to start FreeMind with kaffe and gcj. Would I get a different
result if I would try to _compile_ first FreeMind with whatever free JDK?

It would be a pleasure, I just need to find a key signer nearby. Anybody
living around Böblingen (or Stuttgart)?
So, what would be the next steps? Remember: I'm still going through the
documentation (and I didn't think it would be so quick to get a sponsor
:-) ).

Thanks, Eric

It seems that this package already exists in the archive. If you have
uploaded the package yourself but forgotten to close this WNPP bug, please
read the instructions at http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp for handling
WNPP bugs properly. You should close WNPP bugs in your initial upload
with a statement like "Initial upload. (Closes: #280324)". Thanks.
Of course, it might also be that someone else uploading this package,
in which case the statements above don't apply -- in any case, the package
seems to be in the archive now.

According to
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/text/freemind

Hardy ships with version 7.1 of Freemind. Hardy should ship with at least latest stable version 0.8.
But better ship with latest 0.9 beta.

hmm, the status says fix released... but i do think it is still not packaged and available in the repo's... see for example bug no: #182927.
So i think we should change the status back here?

Oh... yes please, reopen this request! Freemind 0.7 compares to 0.9 like Windows 3.1 compares to XP! :( 0.8 - I would say - is the very minimum it makes sense to package.

I've un-duped bug 182927 instead.
This particular bug here was about importing freemind into Ubuntu, and is really fixed.

Somebody needs to step up, file a FeatureFreeze exception and provide a package for it. It does not help to complain, somebody needs to do it.
