Bug Description

Select System / Preferences / Main Menu, go anywhere in the tree, click on any entry, then click up or down, the corresponding entry moves accordingly and stays selected. Good.

Now, insert a separator, select an entry below that separator, click up or down, it moves but the selection is no longer the right entry, The entry moves once but the selection moves twice. That means if you click more than once on up or down, you mess up the order completly.

this a freshly updated feisty.

oh, and BTW, Moving entries up or down is *very* slow, even on brand new H/W.

seems this is similar to #94742 (unconfirmed too). I confirm I still see the bug. My bet is on the separator but I haven't check the code.

I cannot reproduce this bug. I tried very hard to get the logic correct for moving separators but as a comment in the code says it'll probably break if you have two separators close together. This is because separators have no unique identifier to locate them. Is this your problem?

I'm now using Gutsy (alacarte 0.11.3-0ubuntu2). Still the same issue.
100% reproducible.

Here is again how I see this issue :

Open the "Main Menu" application.
Select "System / Administration" in the left pane (Menus).
Add a separator in the right pane (Items) after the 4th entry.
Select the 6th entry (2nd just after the new separator).
Click "Move up".
The 6th entry is now 5th (good) but the selection is on the separator (4th) => bad

Select the entry just after the separator (should be 5th).
Click "Move Down"
5th is now 6th (good) but selection is still on 5th position (bad).

I expected the selection to move with entry just moved.

I still cannot reproduce your problem with moving up (and what you describe doesn't seem possible looking at the code). However, I can reproduce your problem moving down.

Confirmed:

--> Steps to reproduce
1. Revert
2. Create a submenu (e.g. "sound" submenu of Sound&Video)
3. Create item1, and item2 in submenu
4. Create a separator after item1 and item2
5. Move separator once spot so the order is item1, separator, item2
6. Click on item1 and click on Move Down
7. Expected behaviour: item1 moved down and selected; Results: item1 move down, but separator selected

Right, that was the one I said I could reproduce. Do you have the original reporter's problem with moving up?

Yes. I can reproduce what Philip has as well the problem while moving up a menu item. What happens is as below.

Say the sequence after the seperator is like below with the selection on Item 3
Item 1
Item 2
Item 3

If I move Item 3 up by one then the sequence is like below with the selection on Item 1.
Item 1
Item 3
Item 2

Guess this is what the OP was trying to explain.

Yes, here is how:

2. Create a submenu (e.g. "sound" submenu of Sound&Video)
3. Create item1, in submenu
4. Select item1 in right pane
5. Create separator in submenu
6. Select separator in right pane
7. Create item2 in submenu
8. Select item2 in right pane
9. Create item3 in submenu
10. Select item3 in right pane
11. Create item4 in submenu
12. Move item4 up one spot.

Expected behaviour: item4 moves up and is still selected
Results: items4 moves up but item2 is selected.

Works perfect in Hardy. After moving Item4, item4 moves up and still is selected. So closing the bug. If you still find problems please feel free to re-open it. Thanks for helping us make Ubuntu better.
