This seems to be what happens when you run ‘emacs -Q --daemon’ and then ‘pkill emacs’.

I accidentally ran 'emacs -nw --no-desktop' inside of term-mode, so emacs running inside itself. I couldn't exit it normally, due to keybinding conflicts (try to exit a child emacs and the parent emacs prompts if you really want to quit, because there are active subprocesses...). So anyway I killed it from the buffer menu and had this apport pop up.
