Bug Description
While trying to upload some videos to Google+ my hard drive went insane, Unity crashed, then X and now X won't start!
I can find no logical reason why this happened, nor do I have any idea how to fix it.
I have ran fsck on all the partitions and tried setting X to the default settings.

I got my system working again by:
1. Loading failsafe X
2. Downloading and installing the latest fglrx
3. Rebooted (but then Wine wouldn't start - this is usually a sign that fglrx is NOT installed)
4. Installed the fglrx-updates packages
5. Rebooted
I'm back to normal for now AFAICT. This doesn't explain what happened, however.
