Bug Description

Precise autodetects monitor just before dimming the screen at the start of engaging the screensaver. If the Precise machine is connected to a KVM switch, Precise autoconfigures to low-resolution monitor when the KVM has connected the monitor to a different machine. Switching back to the Precise machine after a while leaves you with this low resolution display. To return to the high-res display you need to open the display settings or wait until the screensaver activates. Neither of these is practical.
Two suggestions:
1) Make the autodetection take place on waking from screensaver, instead or as well as before. This would solve the problem in most situations.
AND/OR 2) Make it possible to disable monitor autodetect on waking and sleeping, merely do the autodetecting on logging in or opening display dialogue.
Behaviour was not evident with Lucid. It was the same for two different brands of KVM.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1022973/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Workaround:

Open terminal

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver lock-enabled false [Enter]

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver idle-activation-enabled false [Enter]

This disables screensaver but does not affect the screen turning off.

(It is on activation of the screensaver that the display is detected and the problems arrive, not on powering off the screen)
