Hi, many people like me suffer because of that problem, it does not only crash when you try to open preferences, it does it also when I try to add a music directory. This package seams rather buggy.
Please look at it because in forums is written that an install from github works fine.
A Google search shows: http://www.google.com/search?q=gtkpod+crash you the dilema

Lubuntu 12.4 gtkpod refuses to stay open, opens and crashes straight away. Has done for a good few weeks.
I changed back to 12.4 from 12.10 thinking this would solve the problem
