Unity 3D doesn't work

Bug Description

Selecting unity (3D) on login gives me a desktop with no launcher, no panel and no dash. Unity 2D works finr

Michael, could you please:

1. Log into a virtual terminal: Ctrl+Alt+F1
2. Run: unity --reset
3. Run: sudo restart lightdm

Does that help?

If not then, please log in to a virtual terminal again and run:
    pidof compiz
Does it show any result?

Also, please try removing the bleeding edge nvidia driver and installing an ubuntu-supported version by running:
   jockey-gtk

Seems like a decorator issue here. Does this happen on a guest session too?

Sorry for the delay responding.

Guest seems to work with Unity 3D - echo $DESKTOP_SESSION gives ubuntu
Normal login wont work with Unity 3D (no launcher etc) but works fine
with Unity 2D.
