The reason in precise was that gvfs was not ported to the new API and wouldn't build with it, that's fixed in the current version

Note that from http://www.libimobiledevice.org/ you will need to update usbmuxd before libimobile device

Unassigning myself because I don't intend to work on that update atm (still on precise) and I don't want to block others to do it

FYI, the new usbmuxd is available in Debian experimental. libimobiledevice 1.1.4 may be available also in experimental shortly, if Ubuntu want it, and if I find a sponsor :-)
Both packages introduce a soname change, so at least a rebuild of the stack is needed.

libimobiledevice 1.1.4 is available on mentors.debian.net, please note that you need also the lastest libplist on experimental to build this new version.
