Bug Description

vm-imap-connection-mode needs proper testing. Here are some things observed today:

On a laptop, network connection wasn't established, `vm-imap-connection-mode' was set to 'offline. Doing M-u M-x vm-imap-synchronize, took a long time trying to connect, then gave a message

  mail client process failed: connection timed out, ...

Then it tried to connect again (inside `vm-imap-make-session') and took another long while to time out.

When the connection-mode is set to 'offline, attempt to make session should have aborted immediately.
