Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase

I just upgraded to kubuntu feisty beta, and it appears that when the number of icons in the system try changes (like, when I stop skype, or start ktorrent), the icons suddenly all line up in a single line, when they were lined up in two lines before that. Needless to say, this wastes a lot of horizontal space in the panel. When I restart X, it's back to two lines.

I narrowed it down a bit now -- this only seems to happen when I've got the Beagle Desktop Search icon in the tray.

beagle icon is probably too many pixels, ie, a non-standard size.

I can confirm this. It also happens with the Beryl-Manager icon. It too is oversized.

In the Ubuntu-forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=400211) you reported, that Kicker won't change the number of lines, until another icon is added or removed. This aspect seems to be a problem with Kicker not updating the information for the system tray properly.

For an experiment, you can try lowering the height of the menu-bar. The system tray will usually continued to display two rows of icons, until something else happens in the system tray.

Can confirm with feisty and gutsy, only it still happens with standard icons. For instance I have amarok, knetworkmanager and kopete which are all standard icons.

This should be fixed in KDE 4.1.
