Have you installed the abuse-sfx package? (it is only suggested by abuse-sdl, not required/recommended)

sudo apt-get install abuse-sfx

Ah, I see. No I hadn't. So the package should be changed to make this a requirement. I have no idea in what circumstances people would decide not to install the SFX where you can simply disable the sound if you don't want them.

Note that the licensing for abuse sounds is "non-free" according to Debian Free Software Guidelines. Accordingly, the abuse sounds are in the non-free repo of Debian and multiverse repository in Ubuntu. Most likely, abuse-sfx can not be made a depend/recommend because of licensing issues, but I will leave the bug open until someone more legally knowledgeable confirms that.

Perhaps a clearer indication that abuse-sfx cannot be automatically installed due to licencing issues.
