Bug Description

I've just upgraded to Skype 4 and noted some strange behaviours in Pidgin:
1) When someone write many consecutive Skype chat messages, Pidgin misses some.
2) If I receive a message, Skype icon will show the notification with "1" unread message and Pidgin window will blink. If I focus the Pidgin window, Pidgin will undestand that I read the message, while Skype will continue showing the "1" unread message in the panel icon. If I reply with a message in Pidgin window, the "1" unread notification in Skype panel icon will go away too.

I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 with Unity.

I see this is still filed as Importance: Undecided and it is yet to be assigned. I'd like to make the case that its importance is quite high, in that it makes the chat component of pidgin-skype unusable.

In some instances, when the conversation is just starting, one notices that the chat window has opened empty, and if one knows about this bug, one can ask the other party to re-send their previous message. While this is highly inconvenient, and leads to all sorts of questions that usually end up making Linux look bad, it's not necessarily always critical.

In other instances, however, where the window is already open, one has no clue that a message has been lost. The uncertainty this creates makes it necessary to resort to the chat window in Skype itself. It also means leaving the Pidgin window open too (otherwise it will spring open constantly), thus perpetuating the uncertaintly cycle.

Please take this view into consideration and raise the level of importance.

Thank you.

This bug starts to turn into a major problem. I use pidgin to communicate via skype so I can keep the history locally and search whenever necessary in one place.
I also communicate with all my co-workers and due to this bug I've started to miss some messages.
Please, increase priority on this bug!

I also recognize this behavior with kopete and kde-telepathy. For me the Skype plugins are not usable since about a third of the incomming messages are not shown.

This appears to be still problematic (so I'm running an old version of Skype). How can we try and push things to get this solved?

I have same problem on Kubuntu 12.04 x86_64 with Skype 4.2.0.11 & KDE Telepathy 0.6.1
Sometimes, I don't even get the Skype messages in Telepathy, but they always appear in Skype.

@dreas-9: what version of Skype are using?

@davidonlaptop I'm now forced to stick to 2.2.0.35, until they solve this Skype bug. 2.2.0.35 has some problems of its own, so it's not ideal but the best alternative I have found so far.

Same problem, various Skype messages get lost. Seems to not happen with some contacts at all while with others it happens sometimes. Only solution would be to not use Skype.

Unfortunately using skype 2.2.0.35 blocks the Ubuntu upgrade to 13.10. I uninstalled it, but cannot get it back to work on 13.10. Seems I have to forget about the Pidgin<-->Skype integration for now :(

I don't see which status to put in place, but now Skype plugin does not require Skype to be running anymore.
