Bug Description

Was allowed to select /dev/sdb to install grub.
/dev/sdb had installation CD data

i had copied LiveCD using dd

You can't do that; you need to install grub to your hard disk.

Maybe this should be an enhancement request then. I don't want to touch my hard disk. And if the live CD ISO can boot from a USB stick, why can't Ubuntu itself not launch from an USB stick?

Also, if it is not supported, why can I select this option in the installer as if it is supported?

Other people seem to have been successful with installing the boot loader on the USB stick in the past:

BTW: When I read the original bug more carefully it looks like someone is trying to install the boot loader on the very same USB stick as the live CD. This is not what I was trying; I did the following instead:
* one SD card with Live CD
* one empty USB stick to install Ubuntu on.

Please let your installer crash file your own bug with your own logs instead of reopening someone else's.
