This bug was really from a system being installed with ubiquity, the graphical installer, and not debian-installer (found on alternate CDs).

affects: debian-installer (Ubuntu) → ubiquity (Ubuntu)
Changed in ubiquity (Ubuntu):

I have the exact same problem. I've tried it with 10.04LTS 11.04, and 12.04 LTS. (all with the alternative installer)

The reason for the alternative installer is that I want to use full disk encryption.
