Bug Description

Cinnamon is abusing my CPU. It uses 30% of a single core with only about 10 windows open. If I run an application with high FPS, such as a game, it bottlenecks the FPS.
This is an i7-2600k @ 4.2GHz, and the GPU is a Radeon HD 6950 @ 1350MHz.
I have mint 13, flgrx installed.

I have the same problem. I have the 64-bit Cinnamon version installed (Mint 13, Cinnamon 1.4). I downloaded the latest ATI driver (v 12.4) from their site and installed it. Checking in System Monitor (and top command) I see that cinnamon is using 60-80% of the cpu. Especially when watching some video or browsing websites cinnamon uses nearly 100%.
CPU - AMD Phenom X4 965, VGA - HD 5750. Linux Mint 13, Cinnamon 1.4, AMD Graphic Drivers 12.4

OpenBox, MATE, etc do not have this issue. So the problem seems to lie with cinnamon.

Same problem here.. Gnome session(with compiz and cario-dock) using 2-3% CPU, however cinnamon 1.6.1 (Linux mint 13) using 40-50% CPU.

Please fix it. Thanx in advance for such a great product. hope these problems will be fixed soon.

Cinnamon 1.6.1 ---- Very Cool.

Above reported issue resolved for me when i logged in with Cinnamon session instead of Cinnamon 2D .

Now CPU 2-3 % , thats cool. Thanks Cinnamon Team.

Hi,

Exact same issue here, Cinnamon 2D is super fast and feels more stable, fluctuates between 6 and 18% on cinnamon. on full idle the cpu is around 4-6% and that load is spread across cores so 1% per core as i have a 1055T 6 core @ 3.8ghz

however, on cinnamon 3D only 1 core is loaded and it is permanent 40% load ?

there is a bug somewhere can this be fixed as i like the cinnamon 3d effects.

thanks

I'm running Mint 14 and since yesterday cinnamon eats 17 gigabytes of RAM right after booting and also maxes out all my 4 cpu cores.

I am running Mint 17.1. Cinnamon 3D holds at 40% CPU. Cinnamon 2D stays below 6%. I am using the nVidia drivers (using the driver manager). NVIDIA GT218 [GeForce 210]. In the "effects" settings I have all effects turned off in both situations.

Here Linux Mint 18.3, Cinnamon still occasionally abuse cpu, using up to 25% in total (100% of 1 core), making the whole gui lag. The more time passes the worse it gets, the only way to "reset" the problem is restarting cinnamon, but it comes up again after 1-2 minutes.

Kernel: 4.11.0-14
GPU: Nvidia GTX 950
