Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1011676/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

After a restart, this morning Empathy worked. I have no idea if the webkit update took effect or other updates resolved it. Can anybody try to install the webkit update, and check if they get the same result?!

I think you need to install this ppa https://launchpad.net/~webkit-team/+archive/ppa
Then do an update, among which there should be the webkit 1.8.1 package too.

ok,thanks. installed the repo and updated the webkit packages to version 1.8.1...restarted...and empathy work fine now!

webkit 1.8.1 also solve crashes in epiphany browser (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/webkit/+bug/980658)

ps: im wondering, as a newbie...why this new version of webkit has not been given from the ubuntu updates still? it will be in the future? if this will be the case, could be a problem to have already installed from webkit repo? (sorry for newbie question)

I think it is totally ok to have the new version installed. Ubuntu detects that it was installed and it just wont be updated when webkit 1.8.1. eventually reaches the official repos.

I'm wondering what is commune in our install of Ubuntu, that we had this bug, and it was not reported by anybody else. Did you upgrade from Ubuntu 11.10? Do you use an nVidia grafical card, that is not supported? Are you connecting from port 80 to Yahoo! on Empathy?
