Authenication window occasionally fails to open, then affects all policykit instances

Bug Description
Unfortunately this seems to happen 'out of the blue', then only a log out in returns to working (other than authenticating thru a terminal like in pkexec synaptic which will work

The software sources error is similar to this bug except that I am the admin user when this occurs in 12.10
