Bug Description

When I go into the Preferences--> Sync tab, both clicking on Pair a Device or Setup Firefox Sync provide no result.

Going from Tools --> Set up Sync gives the following error in the console:

Error: resource://services-sync/engines/clients.js - Could not get symbol 'Clients'.

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. This works for me on 12.04. Do you have the same issue in Safe Mode (firefox -safe-mode)? If it does, one of your extensions might be conflicting with Firefox Sync.

This is because you have some sync-related files in your profile that are owned by the wrong user. The most likely cause for this is that you have ran Firefox as a different user (with sudo?) at some point.

I have the same issue in safe-mode as well, thanks Micah.

Chris, maybe you are right, but that does not help me much. Where should I look for those files?

Moving this to the answer tracker, which is a more appropriate place to ask for support

I solved it. It had to do with a corrupted profile indeed.

I have run

firefox -ProfileManager

deleted the old profile, made a new one
and it worked!!!
