Bug Description

Hi,

I don’t know what did happens, but about one minute after starting, cairo-dock freezes and takes 100% CPU. I’ve done nothing particularly with it though and such a bug does not happens frequently.
After killing it and restart it, it does not suffer again of such a problem.
The informations Apport adds have been collected while it was feezing.

Hoping it can help,
Martin.

Hello and thank you for this bug report!

This is a strange bug! And hard to debug it... It can be interesting to find a way to reproduce it.
Also, what's your video card and which version of its drivers are you using?
Did you have this bug with cairo-dock 3.0.0.1-0ubuntu1 (a new bug-fixed version (3.0.0.1-0ubuntu1.1) has been uploaded last week)
Can you also have a look to this topic on our forum? http://glx-dock.org/bg_topic.php?t=6212

Thank you for your answer!

As I don’t know myself what’s exactly happens, I do not see how to reproduce it. I’ll make some tests as soon as I get some time to do them…

Here is the informations given by “lspci” about my video card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G98M [GeForce G 105M] (rev a1)
I’m using the non-free Nvidia driver.

I’m not sure, but I think this is the first time I was experiencing this bug… But I did not experienced it this week-end: I don’t know what did change, though!

I’m afraid I do not have enough time right now to make a backtrace, but the link you’re pointing gives enough informations to do it, thanks! I’ve just installed the debug package and I’ll do a backtrace as soon as I can.

The strangest things about this bug is that I’ve not found any way to reproduce it for now… I’ll make some tests later.

Thanks for your help,
Martin.

Hi!
As the bug just re-appears and that I had installed some debug packages for Cairo-dock, I thought those informations could eventually be useful.
I’ll try to find a way to reproduce it as soon as I get some time—and to test if it still “works” with another video driver.
Martin.
P.S.: By the way, is that normal that after installing some debug packages (as I have added the PPA of Cairo-dock—not the weekly one though—the version of Cairo-dock might not be the same), Apport no longer recognize it as a supported software?
Have a nice day.

Yes simply because this package has not been downloaded from official Ubuntu repos.

Thank you for having uploaded these files!

Can you try to reproduce the bug with the default theme by launching the dock with this command? (it seems the bug on our forum was due to a problem with the config files)
 $ cairo-dock -d ~/cd_test

But if you're able to reproduce the bug (with the default theme or not), it can be interesting to have a backtrace from gdb (or at least all messages (if you see always the same lines) you will have when launching it with this option: -l debug => cairo-dock -l debug)

Can you also try without any plug-ins?
  $ cairo-dock -fl debug
