Bug Description

Firefox doesn't scroll the page properly.

I may not be able to explain the problem exactly. But here is what happens :

1) Open certain website. For Eg: ubuntuforums.org

2) Try scroll the page down.

3) On screen it looks like it is not scrolled but in fact it would have scrolled down. Ie It appears like GRAPHIC FREEZE. I say it as graphic freeze because I can use the window, for that matter refresh the page etc.
This is confirmed after sometime when the page come out that freeze and begins to show the new position of page.
Also it can be confirmed by trying to copy a line or opening a link. The link will not be opened because the link would have scrolled to new position and after the window comes out of the 'GRAPHIC FREEZE' you can click on the link from it new posiiton.

Also to be noted is that this problem occurs randomly.

It creates a very jarring experience.

Looks like problem is with Ubuntu/Unity. Because on linux mint this problem is not there

I have upgraded to new firefox 13. And didn't notice it yet may be bcoz smmoth scrolling is enabled!!!

But the interesting thing I noticed is that this also happens on chmsee. While reading a book, if I scroll down the area on moitor showed sort of graphical glich where the old text in that position and new text sort of divide among themselves.

I dont have a screenshot next time this happens I'll post the screenshot.

Im experiencing this issue at the following URL:

 http://www.techradar.com/

I am accessing it from the UK (it is a UK floating advert about the national lottery that appears to be causing the symptom).

On sub pages within the website, I don't experience the symptom but they are non floating: the body of the website scrolls without the advert. On the Home page, the advert scrolls with the body but tries to float to the top portion of the screen. It is on this page that the scroll lag occurs.

I am using Firefox 15.0.1.
Ubuntu 12.04 with unity desktop
ATI Radeon 6800 driver version amd-driver-installer-12-8-x86.x86_64

Workaround attempted: Tried disabling ALL firefox addons - symptom still persistant
Tried Firefox on Windows with the same addons and same hardware - Symptom NOT present.

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu and Firefox since that time.

Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) reached end-of-life on April 28, 2017.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported using currently supported versions of Firefox and Ubuntu? Please let us know if you do otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.
