Bug Description
Hardware:
1. Powerlink USB Wifi adapter Model/Part Number PT-H9DN with rl3070 chipset
2. Intel Emachines E525 Laptop 64 Bit Celeron Processor
Software:
Ubuntu 12.04 using kernel 3.2.0-24-generic using the rt2800usb.ko module. (64 bit)
THE PROBLEM:
With a fresh install the card works out of box except the signal stregth of networks found is not being displayed in the Network Manager Indicator and the terminal. (all have zero bars but are getting good signal) (tested)
I tested it with aircrack-ng using airodump-ng and it works perfectly even tested for packet injection and it works but it reports
every network as having -127dbi
I did an lsmod and it shows that it is using the rt2800usb.ko moudle from the /lib/modules/
I have worked on this for two weeks with so luck.
I have done the following to fix the problem with no luck:
Downloaded and installed the latest Ralink drivers from their website at
http://
blacklisted the rt2800usb drivers in /etc/modules.
Extracted & compiled them without issues then did insmod to insert the driver in the kernal and modprobe to start it up.
(it installs the rt5370sta.ko module.) then reboot.
This worked and I get signal strength but the driver is buggy and does not work with aircrack-ng it also does not have packet injection. the rt5370sta.ko comes up as RA0 in ifconfig. and aircrack-ng airmon-ng lists the driver as an rt2500 PCI device.
Does anyone know a fix for getting the better rt2800usb driver to work with this card ! since it works perfectly except for signal strength monitoring !.. ? is their a new rt2800usb driver ? can I use another older driver that may work with aircrack-ng and this card ? I have searched for days to no avail please help..
