My speakers stopped working on my dv6 after upgrading to kernel 3.2.0-25 generic 64 bit. I rolled back to 3.2.0-23 and it was fine again.

External speakers and headphone seem OK. Launching my computer with kernel 3.2.0-24 made the problem go away.

I upgraded to 3.2.0-24 and everything seems to be working fine still. I should probably have noted that I've added

options snd-hda-intel model=hp-dv5

to my alsa-base.conf to account for an issue where sound comes out of the speakers and the headphones when the headphones are plugged in. With that line in place, 3.2.0-25 and 3.4.0 both refuse to play sound from the speakers at all but will work with the headphones. With that line commented out sound comes out of the speakers again but refuses to mute with the headphones in.

I also experience the bug. After upgrading kernel to 3.2.0-25 no sound at all. When I choose the previous kernel version 3.2.0-24 from Grub menu, then everything is fine.

Hi David, I have subscribed you here, because you have commented on ticket

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1015851

Hope that is o.K

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have went through launchpad and gathered all tickets that affect hp pavillion sound with the 7603 chip here.

As you can see from the comments it's seems to be a update-regression. I could not say precisely if it comes from the kernel or from alsa, because I have not the timelines of updates.

The first occurence seems to be

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1013957

with the kernel 3.2.18(generic)

Can you decide?

Thanks.

Hi melchiaros,

Broken sound for IDT* and STAC* codecs in kernel 3.2.0-25, that sounds like bug 1013183. If you went through the duplicates to this bug you probably know better than I if these are all duplicates of bug 1013183 as well.

Thanks for triaging!

Yes, sounds like the kernel bug, but there is only one method to be sure.

@ all who are affected

We need a retest with the latest kernel updates.

For this please enable over software updater -> settings...(left down corner)-> actualisations

the precise-proposed software sources(beside all other there, when they are not enabled).

Then close the settings and check for updates.

You should get offered linux kernel updates to version 3.2.0.26.28.

Install them.

Start your system new and test again.

Please report back of the result.

Sorry, but I just tested 3.2.0-26-generic #41~lp1013183v4 from bug #1013183 and it works

But 3.2.0.26.28 does not.

I do not know why the patch is not in the 3.2.0.26.28 kernel. Any updates to 3.2.0-26-generic #41~lp1013183v4 from bug #1013183 are at own risk at moment. May be you whant to wait until it is solved in the official updates.

I'll go ahead and report this here and on my bug report. From what I can tell, the fix has been committed for the next kernel update. While bug #1013183 is older than mine, the actual fix has been in the works it appears. The #41~lp1013183v4 has been in the works and was not a totally verified fix until right before the release of the 3.2.0.26.28 kernel. If I'm not mistaken, we should see the fix released with the next kernel update.
