Bug Description

Opening a new bug as instructed in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1005211/comments/2

I updated from Oneiric to Precise.

What I expected: The top panel fonts would be rendered nicely as they were before the update.

What happened instead: Now the top panel fonts are rendered in a fuzzy way. The name of the window, weather applet text, time applet text and user name are rendered fuzzily. All the other fonts are OK, e.g. Firefox tabs, gedit input and gnome-terminal text.

Is that the same in a guest session as well? please make sure to run 'unity --reset' in a terminal. I believe it could have something to do with a little change in the opacity value of the launcher.

Additional info:

This problem seems to be way more prominent in Unity-2d than in Unity. In standard Unity I can notice that the rendering is a bit different but not in a too distracting way. In Unity-2d it is ugly as in the example png above.

Can you please attach a unity2d VS Unity comparision of the problem?

In unity-2d the font is more fuzzy. In standard unity the font is a bit off, it looks unfocused.

Tuomo - Thanks that confirms a bug in the Unity 2D panel font rendering. It's meant to look embossed as it does in Unity (3D).

Taras - That is not a bug in your screenshot. I believe the font in the Unity panel is meant to be embossed and so will look different to how it does in applications.

affects: unity (Ubuntu) → unity-2d (Ubuntu)
Changed in unity-2d (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → Confirmed
summary: - top panel font rendering fuzzy
