Bug Description

The missing symlink isn't the only install problem for the package - it also tries to use a non-existent directory.

---------------------
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libhdf5.so.7.0.2 /usr/lib/libhdf5.so.6
sudo mkdir /usr/local/share/octave/packages
sudo apt-get -f install

Please close this as INVALID. I just tested on a VM and could not recreate the issue.

Looking closer, my issue was probably due to an installation of Octave that had been compiled from source and was resident in /usr/local/bin.

Thanks 3vi1 for posting the explanation of your issue! I got the same error message and when I saw your post I remembered that I had built a custom version a few months back. Saved me some time.
