Came out of a 12.04 64 bit upgrade on this machine with just a blinking cursor...I then used root-repair

Please use 'sudo apt-get -f install' in a Terminal to complete any unfinished update operation; then copy here any error messages you may find.
I think what happened is that the script tried to restart bluetooth, but bluetooth wasn't started; hence the failure.
