ubuntu v12.04 Desktop pae Unable to boot

ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso

Tried to install latest ubuntu release and it fails with the following messages:

   This kernel requires the following features not present on the CPU:
   pae
   Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.

Hardware is Asus EeePC 701 4G. Previous versions ran okay.

Given what I've read here "https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2012-May/035176.html" the attitude is to only go with the latest and greatest hardware.

To me the whole point of Ubuntu was to be able to support old underpowered hardware and give it a new lease of life. If there is no fix for this then I will take it that Ubuntu is a defunct operating system and the spirit of Ubuntu has died.

 Clearly the likes of Intel have got their hooks into the developers.

This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem. From a terminal window please run:

apport-collect 1005046

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

Can't collect logs or run apport-collect as system just hangs after giving error.
