Bug Description

Running the HP Toolbox on my12.04, 32 bit installation is painful. It takes several minutes to load the two devices; actually on as it's an OfficeJet with fax support. Once loaded, changing to another tab also results in a long wait .

I have the 64 bit version of 12.04 running on another partition and the toolbox is working fine with no delays at all.

Please let me know if there's a command I can run on the 64 bit version for comparison.

Can you try the CUPS package in -proposed following the instructions in bug 992982, comment #43 and if this also does not work the package from my PPA as described in bug 973270, comment #21. These packages fix several bugs in CUPS, not only the ones referenced here.

If this still does not work, please follow the instructions of the sections "CUPS error_log" on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems. Also attach /var/log/syslog. Thanks.

I already have the proposed version, as my software settings are set to accept all proposed updates.

After installing your ppa, the device manager needed to reinstall my OfficeJet, but it's still so slow that it reminds me of my MacPlus with 8 mb of memory and a 20 mb hard drive.

My 64 bit partition is leaner than the 32 bit partition, as I use the former for testing. It makes me wonder if there is a conflict somewhere.

To reiterate, hplip is running flawlessly on my 64 bit partition.

Another thought - if cups is the problem, shouldn't I have the same issue with my default printer (Samsung CLP-500)?
