This bug is still not solved. Now with version 2012.05.11 I get this output of mintupdate

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/mint-search-addon_2012.05.11_all.deb:
»/<email address hidden>/install.rdf.dpkg-new«
kann nicht geöffnet werden: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden

in english:

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/mint-search-addon_2012.05.11_all.deb:
»/<email address hidden>/install.rdf.dpkg-new«
cannot be opened: file or folder not found

It seems, there is a folder missing, which is needed for this content.

Just ran in to this while trying to do an in-place upgrade from Mint 12 to 13. I think the upgrade worked except for this package. When I tried to let the update manager upgrade the package, it detected brokenness and did a complete system rebuild for 4+ hours which ended in the same error.

For giggles I tried creating the file with touch but after running apt-get upgrade it was gone again.
