Opening new server opens to black the first time

Bug Description

When I open a new server from the main Remmina window the first time, it opens a window, but only shows black. Netstat shows a connection was established. But the window consistently stays black.

If I close the window and try to reopen the connection, the same thing happens.

If I open the first black screen, and then immediately open the second screen, the connection works.

Same error here.

Some more information:

- When you re-size the first "black" window, switch to full-screen or drop the first tab to an other remmina window it shows the right content and it operate normally afterward
- There are some servers where I use tmux, and my shell is connects automatically to the last tmux. When I open such a server, I see a part of the bottom green line but not in the right place. See the attachment (the wrong and the right window)
- Previous version worked well.

I can confirm that jmilus' workaround works the same as reopening the window.

Additionally, I have also confirmed that when the screen is black, the connection is made, but the login does not happen. Once the screen size is changed, or a reconnection is made, the login occurs. It appears to be between connection and login to the server.

I think you are wrong about login. Try to use some full screen program, for example midnight commander. When you type `mc' in the black screen, you will see a part from the bottom-right corner of the well-known blue mc panel in the top-left corner of the window. I think that means the whole login process (rsa key authentication, pam things, bash starting etc.) runs as normal, just the screen position is bad.

When you use password authentication you can log in 'blindly'. Of course you are not able to see the prompts, because they are not in bottom-right corner.

It appears you are correct.

Also, just a bit of more info. The workaround you gave i.e. changing the size of the screen seems to fix the problem for the entire session. When I was opening two windows it was only fixing it for that particular server. So I recommend using jmilus' advice of resizing the window. That gets around the issue for now.

I'll have to test on another ubuntu machine to see if the issue is happening everywhere. You would think that if it were, we'd see a lot more people responding or posting the bug.

Perhaps it is something we have installed in common? I have substantially tried to lower my Compiz footprint by disabling a lot of the fancy graphics teaks.

Compiz/Unity does not seem to be the problem as I tried to login with the Ubuntu 2D session with the same result. Even changed my nVidia driver without change.

BTW, what are your GPU chips? Maybe related to nVidia hardware/driver?

same issue for myself. Always occured whether in Unity 2D, Unity 3D and ultimately Gnome Shell once I gave up on Unity.

Further the above combinations on both Open Source and Propriety drivers for my AMD Video still produce the problem.
Running NVIDIA Quadro for my work PC on 12.04 - same issue.

I always have to click the "1" to resize to the window, even if the window is "correct" in size (I always run custom resolution at 1152x864). If I have a session already running and fire up another Tab - it works fine, almost like a virtual resolution is wrong or the X session ID. Just now tried to open up an RDP with "client resolution" and it froze altogether (remmina nothing else). After a "kill" of process ID, start session again with client resolution (no other sessions active) and it came up with a login - but window size was that of the previous "1152x864" so the login screen was off to the right hand side (native resolution 1920x1080 on primary, 1280x1024 on secondary).

I have non stop issues really wish this would work as it is currently a major drawback for me on Ubuntu trying to support RDP based systems.

If there is more info I can provide I am happy to do so.

No fix for this yet? Pretty sad since it's the default RDP client for an LTS release and this bug is one year old!

It's even worse. ALL connections start with a blank screen, have to adjust window size to get a refresh with the real content.
With 12.04 only the first connection started with a blank, all next tabs not.

I've noticed that if it's a saved connection, I can get it to work by starting the connection first in "Use client resolution" mode. If I save it in that mode, connect once, then logout or close the window and then set it and save it as my desired resolution, the connection works thereafter.

Similar problem in my installation (1.0.0-4ubuntu3): After connecting I often only have a blank window with toolbar. It took a while to realize that the session is there, but I need to resize the window. change its width by 1 pixel is enough to make the session visible. The "1" button doesn't work for me: It sets the correct width but double the height of was is necessary. If I click again the height is again doubled and the session itself is displayed outside of the range of my physical screen. I attached a collage of screenshots.
