I have tried to reproduce, but I can not provoce a crash.

I have seen

"NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia".

When you have the prop. driver installed it may be the explanation to this crash.
In this case you should send nvidia a message(not like Torvalds -> when you have seen the video : lol)

Can you give feedback.

Bonjour,

I have reproduce this problem on 2 different machines, with both an Nvidia and AMD GPU. Picard is not the only software affected though. Another bug # 1003568 is open and under investigation.

This bug affects me as well, Worked fine on Ubuntu 12.04, but freezes my entire system on 12.10. I am using open source ATI drivers, so it isn't nvidia.

This bug affects me as well.
After a switch to tty1, "top" inform me that "Xorg" process toke 99% CPU.
After I Killed the "picard" (from tty1) process "Xorg" return to normal and my computer is unfreeze.

Can provide more informations if needed.

Same problem here.

I can get it to launch without crashing or hogging the memory by changing the QT theme to Motif (damn ugly) OR by running LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 picard, which I thought was the perfect solution until I resized the window and it crashed and started sucking the memory again. QT problem? Happens with puddletag as well.

Intel graphics here, same issue. "LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 picard" opens the app, but when resizing window, it crashes again.

Contrary to what melchiaros wrote on 2012-07-07 this is not all related to nvida, inte since and AMd system have it too. This is not even new, it was the same during 12.04 development and somehow got fixed. He commented without prior researching.
But remember that Picard is not the only software experiencing the issue, this has been marked as a duplicate of bug 1005677. Please use the later instead of this one for reporting.

Thank you Alain for invastigation.

In respect ot #2 the formulation "it may be the explanation" was used which is not "Contrary to what melchiaros wrote on 2012-07-07 this is not all related to nvida" as in #9.

Commnet #2 also gives the info "I have tried to reproduce, but I can not provoce a crash." which is many more than " He commented without prior researching." in comment #9. And the hint to the gtk widget style, was not given here directly, even it was visible in bug 1003568
