Bug Description
The public Silva API is used from the layout page templates
to accomplish various things. I've noticed over time that
there are various things users want to do commonly that
are not available readily in the API, and this leads to
hacks. We need to analyze these hacks (and in general
the layout use cases) to figure out how we can make it
easier, and improve the public API accordingly.

The layout system is completely different now, pretty flexible, and no hacks like before are required.
