Bug Description

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a terminal window.
2. Run 'gksudo synaptic'.
3. Enter your password and click 'OK'.
4. Open 'Preferences' dialog. ([Settings] - [Preferences] on the menu)
5. Two drop-down boxes for 'System upgrade' and 'Reloading outdated package information' are empty.
6. Click one of these empty boxes, and error outputs appears in your terminal as follows:
